«Los ecos de Manzanares»
OUR PROJECT
The Cancionero de la Sablonara is a compilation of 75 polyphonic songs mostly composed at the Spanish Court in Madrid in the beginning of the 17th century. It's name refers to the compiler Claudio de la Sablonara, copyist at the Royal Chapel in Madrid.
This manuscript was commissioned by Wolfgang Wilhelm, Count of Nüremberg during his stay at the court of Felipe IV in Madrid in 1624 and 1625. It is still preserved today at the Bavarian National Library in Münich, for which reason it is also sometimes called “ Cancionero de Munich”.
This book contains without any doubt the most beautiful Spanish secular vocal music of the time, represented by brilliant composers such as, among others, the Flemish (naturalized in Spain) Mateo Romero ( Mathieu Rosmarin), Alvaro de Los Rios and Juan Blas de Castro. The lyrics of these songs come from eminent figures of the “Siglo de Oro” literature, such as Lope de Vega, Luis de Gòngora and Francisco de Quevedo.
The music in this program is a good example of the transitory repertoire between renaissance polyphony and the baroque “new music”. On one hand, one finds absolutely homophonic pieces, strongly rythmical, upon popular sounding texts (like Seguidillas) and on the other hand, pieces sounding almost madrigalistic with contrapuntal imitations and very elaborate melodies. Many of the songs in this manuscript contain melodies that probably derive from songs sung in the theater or from popular romances of the time, and most of the texts seem to confirm this.

To achieve such a project in correct conditions, several expenses are implied, including :
· Recording, editing, mastering (costs of the sound engineer).
· Travel and food expenses for everybody taking part in the recording.
· Salary of the musicians.

The expenses amount to a total of 10,000 CHF. Unfortunately, we are lacking this budget which is absolutely necessary to achieve this project. For this reason, we are seeking generous patrons or sponsors (private or not) willing to support our ensemble for this project.
